What lessons feel like
We’ll keep things clear and supportive: you’ll know what to practise, why it matters, and how it connects to the music you care about.
Many students come to me feeling stuck. They’re practising hard, but the results aren’t showing up. Often it’s because they’ve been taught the notes, but not the physical and mental habits required to play them well.
Most teachers don’t teach these habits, but the good news is that once you learn and apply them, you’ll see your progress accelerate- and your playing becomes much more musical and rewarding!
Lessons can be more structured & goal-focused, or more guided by open exploration- depending on where you are in your playing and what suits you best.
We’ll work on the musical skills that matter for you, including: technique, musicianship, confidence, creativity, and enjoyment.
60-minute online lesson: £45
Most students choose weekly lessons because regular feedback helps build the right habits and keeps progress on track. If fortnightly or occasional lessons suit your schedule or budget, that’s absolutely fine too, just mention what you’re considering.
UK: bank transfer (GBP)
International: Wise.com recommended (usually cheaper than bank fees and currency conversion)
Other: mention in your enquiry and we’ll discuss what’s workable
Use the form below, with a few details so I can understand what you’re looking for.
We’ll arrange an initial consultation to talk through goals, questions, and practicalities.
If you’d like to go ahead, we’ll book your regular slot and begin.
Common directions students take in lessons:
For pianists who want a strong traditional classical foundation, from first pieces through to diploma-level and beyond. We take a clear, analytical approach to the repertoire, working on stylistic interpretation, technique, tone production, and efficient practice strategies.
If you’re working towards exams or auditions, we can cover programme planning and performance preparation. I also publish a lot of exam/grade support material on YouTube (see the playlist). But there’s no expectation to take exams if they’re not your thing.
For those starting from scratch, or those who learned earlier in life and want to return to it now. We can take a relaxed, enjoyment-first approach, or work in a thorough, structured way to (re)build your technique.
This can be tailored towards classical, pop, playing by ear, or a mix- with an emphasis on confidence, good habits, and steady progress.
For: learning to improvise, reading lead sheets/fake books, understanding jazz theory (including reharmonisation), and improving rhythm/feel.
Whether you’re coming from classical, starting fresh, or already improvising and want to go deeper- we’ll build your vocabulary and the practical skills to apply it confidently to real tunes, in a way that serves your musical goals.
For those who want to play the songs they love and develop a good ear. Learn strategies for jamming with other musicians, and build practical musicianship that helps you find your way around the keyboard with confidence.
For composing, arranging, and improvising- using the piano as a creative tool. We’ll explore harmony, form, and practical techniques that help you find and develop your ideal style & sound.
If you’re curious about modern tools (DAWs, synths, notation software, or AI models such as Suno), I’ll show you how to use them to support your own musical voice- not replace it.
For teachers looking to sharpen their toolkit. We can explore your teaching approach, troubleshoot student challenges, and develop your own playing and repertoire so you feel fully confident demonstrating and guiding more advanced work.
We can also work on strategies for beginners- and on practical ways to help students sound more musical which aren't covered in traditional pedagogy.
Not at all. What matters most is how you practise, not how many hours you cram in- I’ll show you how to practise in a focused way that makes the most of your time. You can make noticeable progress with as little as 15 minutes a day when it’s well guided.
And although it might seem counter-intuitive, regular weekly lessons often help more when practice time is limited, because piano progress is less about collecting information and then ‘perfecting it’ alone- and more about building good habits with regular feedback. This way, the feedback loop stays short: small issues get corrected quickly, good habits settle in, and you don’t spend weeks reinforcing the wrong things. But if fortnightly or occasional lessons fit your schedule or budget better, that’s absolutely fine too- we’ll keep expectations sensible and focus on the highest-impact priorities.
Online lessons can be just as effective, and often more practical- you play on your own piano, and you can choose the best teacher for you from anywhere in the world! I personally sometimes have online lessons with a concert pianist teacher, so I’m completely confident in the format. And high-quality video recordings (if you want them) are a game changer for revisiting details between lessons.
If you’re worried about learning technique, you’d be amazed how much I can tell- it really is almost the same as being sat next to you. And when it’s helpful, I use multiple camera angles to demonstrate clearly.
A piano/keyboard, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera (phone, tablet, or laptop). I’ll help you get a good camera angle so I can see hands and posture.
Yes. Beginners and rusty returners are very welcome!
Although reading music has many benefits, I’m happy to teach and help those who want to play by ear only.
Yes. I share my full studio policy before the first paid lesson so everything is clear from the start.
I’ve always loved music, and picked it up easily when I was young- I got my Grade 8 piano when I was 11 after only a few years of very light practice (my poor piano teacher! sorry!).
As a piano teacher, I developed a passion for cracking the code in how adult students can learn in that same natural, quick and relaxed way. I truly believe this kind of ‘effortless talented youngster’ learning is open to any adult (even beginners), once I show you the conditions to put in place.
A quick note is enough. Tell me where you’re at, what you’d like to achieve, and when you’re usually free for a first consultation.
